LATELY…

LEMURIA has advanced to a second year of development with NY Classical Theatre’s New Visions initiative. The program is designed to “explore new ways of viewing the ‘classics,’ expand our ideas of what ‘classics’ can be, and challenge the power structures that undergird the notion of ‘classics.’” Here’s the cast of our September ‘23 workshop — Shavanna Calder, Irene Sofia Lucio, Karen Ziemba, Scout Backus, Luke Islam, & Ceci Fernández - along with director Pirronne Yousefzadeh & NY Classical literary director Matt Chapman. Believe, ya lemurs!

In June ‘23, I’ll take a break from screenwriting projects and join some of my cohort from The Road’s Under Construction to present the plays we developed together. On deck is IDAHOE, my new musical about kidnapped Civil War sex workers on a very true, very deranged riverboat journey in 1863.

This April, Seven Devils Playwrights Conference named LEMURIA a Finalist in their ‘23 reading process.

My plays and screenplays tend to grow from questions or curiosities about:

  • Shakespeare

  • the American South(s)

  • the lives of queer folks, now & through time

  • the Venn Diagram almond between folk music & opera

  • ambivalence towards fast food chicken

  • the ghosts & myths of family
